The horse world revolves around trends...I guess maybe the whole world does as well, but I only pay attention to the horse world.     For instance; bits, bloodlines, bronc stompers...if you aren't using the right name brand, riding the right name brand, or getting those youngsters started by the right name brand, you are somehow less worthy.    These trends have never sucked me in. It's the same as feed and supplements...I am a 'whatever' type of trainer. Does your horse look good? Then keep feeding what your feeding. Is he working good? Then you are probably using the right equipment.     Stop over thinking everything people.     We all got into this business because we were drawn to it by our love of horses. That should be enough. The trends are simply white noise. Ignore them. If you aren't riding a Dash Ta Fame, Metallic Cat cross, don't waste time worrying about it! Go make a silk purse out of the sows' ear you are riding, if that's how you are allowing folks to make you feel about the horse you're on.     Read that again.     You are allowing folks to make you feel the way you are feeling.     I have never shown up anywhere with a three hundred and fifty dollar bit hanging off my bridle. Never.      Yet I've won anyway.     I have never shown up riding the best bred, fastest running, most expensive head horse or barrel horse in the pen.     Yet I've won anyway.     Trends are for folks who have more money and time than I do. I'll let them do them.     Me, I'm just going to keep showing up with whatever is working and I suggest the girls who are worried about 'fitting in' do the same. How about we let that attitude catch on! Now that is a trend I can get behind.
